Exchange 2003 Install error "Setup encountered an error while trying to contact the Windows Active Directory. There is no further error information"
I am receiving the following error when trying to install an additional Exchange 2003 server into an Active Directory 2003 domain that already has an Exchange 2003 organization running. I want to add this additional Exchange 2003 server into my exisiting Exchange Org. The error is as follows:"The component "Microsoft Exchange Messaging and Collaboration Services" cannot be assigned the action "Install" because: - Setup encountered an error while trying to contact the Windows Active Directory. There is no further error information"I have verified that the Windows 2003 Server I am attempting to install Exchange on has access to the domain Schema Master and the Primary Domain Controlleron the following ports:Kerberos 88Global Catalog 3269LDAP 389I have found serveral posts concerning a similar error and Exchange 2003 on Active Directory 2000. However, they don'tappear to apply to my situation as I am Exchange 2003 on AD 2003 and my server has access to my Schema and Domain controllers. Also, the error I am receiving doesn't specifically mention what it needs access to.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What do you see in the application log and mostly in Exchange server setup progress log? Before you run the install make sure that you rename the setup logs directory and letexchange create another one. If this server is being installed in existing exchange org then I would recommend you running ExBPA on the server which is going to be a fresh install. Most of the times it will give you the directives.Milind Naphade | MCTS:M | http://www.msexchangegeek.com

Fist check DNS setting on this new ex2003 server from command prompt type nslookup and try to resolve the name for your old ex2003 servers as well as for DC/GC I would recommend you to run the dcdiag and netdiag to make sure there are no connectivity issues. DCDIAG http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc758753%28WS.10%29.aspx NETDIAG http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc782085%28WS.10%29.aspx Also make sure you have the proper rights to install additional exchange server 2003 Permissions that you must have to install components in Exchange Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/828765 Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Thank you Vinod. I discovered that the server was pointing to the wrong DNS sever. I changed it and that fixed my issue. Thank you again.
